Food Carts, Food Bikes

NPR did a recent article about food bikes. You've heard of food truck and even food carts. Seems that those on two wheels are getting in on the convenient, enviro-friendly food market.

The Popcycle from Austin, TX
Bikes "pedaling" ice cream treats, sodas, coffee and other goodies. Though not quite the same, I spotted a pizza delivery bike at Vinnie Van Go Go's in Savannah, GA. And I gotta give it to NPR. The title of the piece is right on:  "Food Trucks, Share The Lane. Food Bikes Are Merging Into the Business." I'd love to hear about any food businesses on bikes you spot in the Upstate!

Greenville South Carolina: Top 2015 Destination

Have you heard? Greenville has been listed as one of the top travel destinations for 2015. Locals know about the appeal of Main Street, affordable living, Falls Park and The Liberty Bridge. The #yeahTHATgreenville hashtag took off on Twitter last year, and there's an Instagram page dedicated to the same phrase.

#yeahTHATGreenville at night

Foodies love the combo of Southern cuisine and locally-sourced ingredients at our restaurants. And then there are the two articles from the Huffington Post on why you should and should not visit Greenville (spoiler alert: one article is a bit dated, but still somewhat relevant and the other article is tongue in cheek). Any press is good press, as they say.

Spend an afternoon with the ducks.

And, as local bicyclists know, Greenville is a great place to ride your bike. With the Swamp Rabbit Trail, plans for more bike facilities and being recognized as an officially bicycle-friendly community, Greenville is a great place to get around on two wheels. Venues like the Swamp Rabbit Inn and Hotel Domestique help make Greenville a true bicycle-friendly vacation destination.
I spy a bicycle built for two!
Great food. Amazing weather. Friendly people. And with so many bicycle-friendly places, it's a great place to visit and live.

If you haven't visited us yet, come see what all the fuss is about! If you're a local, consider visiting or trying something new around the Upstate. Here's to making #yeahTHATGreenville even better this year!!!

More in 2015

What will you do to continue the momentum for better biking in South Carolina in 2015? This was a question I posted on Twitter on New Year's Day. I got some great responses from folks.

The Swamp Rabbit Inn @swamprabbitin focused on promoting Greenville as a national biking destination. They said that planned on "persistently promoting #GreenvilleSC as one of the best #cycling destination."

James Thomas @JCTdesign is a local bike advocate. He said that he "just wants to stay focused on the benefits of bike friendly streets...for individuals and the community."

I took a more personal approach, and shared that I wanted to "1) Support my partner getting a better bike. 2) And then take bike rides together."

These are all great goals to support better biking across the state in 2015. I would love to here what your goals are for this new year. Feel free to share your thoughts via Twitter using the hashtag "#bikingin2015" or in the comments below. I look forward to doing more with you in 2015!
